Oil free compressed air

Avelair have the ability to provide true oil free compressed air better down to 0.003mg/m3.

The ambient air consists of hydrocarbons and the quality measured in the main cities in the UK is approximately 0.015 mg/m3 – Class 2 (source: UK Air Quality Archive) – this is mainly produced by vehicle exhausts. An oil free compressor will not add oil but will compress the ambient air and hence will compress the hydrocarbons and oil within it.

The Avelair Ecotec actively converts the hydrocarbons in the compressed air by catalytic technology. It incorporates a catalyst material enclosed in a vessel with a heating element in the middle. Compressed air passes over the catalyst which is pre-heated to 200°C.

Hydrocarbons in the compressed air are chemically modified so that water and carbon dioxide molecules are discharged with the air and all other molecules are retained on the catalyst material. This provides oil free compressed air (<0.003mg/m3), cleaner than the air quality at compressor intake.

The compressed air is passed through a heat exchanger which brings the temperature back down to a few degrees above the inlet temperature.

Because this is a chemical modification of the oil / hydrocarbons, the catalyst bed doesn’t block or reduce in efficiency in the same way as a filter will. The life of the material is better than 20,000 hours without maintenance.

The Ecotec further actively reduces funghi, bacteria, viruses and silicone.
